A senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a partner who was ambushed by a blade-wielder has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in the area in July 2023.

He struck the policeman who stumbled and fell to the street, before Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a open target, concluding the fight to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Officials said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his partner's hemorrhaging before emergency responders arrived.
The latest honor follows after the three officers were granted organizational Courage Honors in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in spring 2024.
